It's the way I was raised, salty licorice was the only licorice I ever had(I've always had the sense to never have Twizzlers). So sweet, when I had it, just didn't taste right.

A kind of similar experience is disliking salt water taffy because I got food sickness(not related to the taffy) within the hour of eating a whole bag when I was a child also.

I see salmiakki (salty licorice) and licorice as two different things in most cases, and I love both. GOOD licorice isn't always easy to find, but I never let the mass-produced shit ruin the good stuff for me.
