The remaining wasteland ends up becoming a haven for a generic and unsightly but tough lizard species from the neighboring scrubland. They eat the insects, who have also colonize the wasteland to eat the decaying matter left behind by the fire. Because the burnt down forest is so barren, nothing else survives there, but the lizards thrive.

Who is to blame for the sorry state of the once lush rainforest? Surely not the scrubland lizard, who is the only hint of life left in the place.
