In the years leading up to the Civil War, the primary concern of American conservatives was preserving the institution of slavery. A century later, the primary concern of American conservatives was preserving the institution of Jim Crow. Both of those institutions are now universally regarded as barbaric relics of the past.

Conservatism, by definition, is about stopping society from changing. It's about preserving the existing social hierarchy and impeding social progress. In the end, however, social progress is going to be inevitable, despite the best efforts of conservatives. As the old saying goes, today's conservative is yesterday's liberal.

The problem with societal progress is that it can mean anything based on the zeitgeist. Homosexuality being allowed on western society is simply because of illuminism being the dominant idea of individual freedom. Meanwhile in non western countries, homosexuality isn't considered societal progress because they don't value individual freedom. And the only reason you do is also because you've grown up in a culture where that is the dominant thought

There are numerous non-western countries where homosexuality is tolerated. In fact, homosexuality has historically always been tolerated in non-Abrahamic cultures. Take Japan, for example. Japan is a highly collectivist culture, yet homosexuality has always been widely accepted there because they were never dominated by the Abrahamic morality that western countries were. Japan was historically Buddhist and Shintoist, neither of which prohibit homosexuality. The only religions that really prohibit homosexuality are the three Abrahamic ones: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

I do think it should be tolerated but I don't think it is something to be celebrated or promoted
