Shit EVERYBODY Cares About! Shrek 5 trailer just dropped

You WILL care!
Seriously though. This is fucking insane.

Within the last two years:
Snow White remake (Snow White's voice actress from the 1937 film has been dead for 25 years, this year.)
Captain America: A Brave New World
Bridget Jones 4: Mad About the Boy
Beetlejuice 2
Indiana Jones 5
Despicable Me 4
Minions: The Rise of Gru
Kung Fu Panda 4
Inside Out 2
Moana 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Mufasa: The Lion King
Deadpool & Wolverine (a sequel film)
Dune: Part Two
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
Gladiator II
Venom: The Last Dance
A Quiet Place: Day One
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
Nosferatu (2024) (remake)
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Wonka (a prequel to a book by a guy who died 35 years ago)

Then there's going to be a Shrek 5, Toy Story 5, Ice Age 6, Zootopia 2, Minions 3, a Mario Movie sequel and there's probably going to be a Sonic 4 at some point.

I'm sick of this shit
Sequels are almost always preferred over new IPs since they've already been tried and tested. New franchises are almost always a gamble

>GTA 6 is before Shrek 5

Well it's not just animated shit, like you're seeing shitty biopics like Oppenheimer or Napoleon coming out, films based off of decades old franchises like Barbie, there is also that live action show based off of the Addams family on Netflix.

I'm just wondering who this shit is made for? I get the animated stuff is for kids and parents wanting to introduce IPs they grew up with to their kids to bridge that generational gap, but who in the fuck is going to be watching Bridget Jones 4?
i have no idea
but to me this best summarizes the phenomenon:
1000000273.jpg

>avatar made $500 million more at the box office
>avatar came out over a decade later
>avatar got a sequel
>both were directed by the same guy
>yet avatar has been fucking memoryholed, nobody cares about it
>titanic is still referenced often today, even the shitty romance, im pretty sure some theatres rescreened it recently

all of these movies except the willy wonka because it has mr bean are slop and if you watch modern cinema then idk what to say because it clearly needs a revolution.

i love jurassic park but i will not be watching jurassic world rebirth for this exact reason. it’s crazy that every jurassic world made a billy each while dominion was pretty much just slop.

Firstly, you do not give FUCKING SHREK of all things a redesign. That alone killed the movie already. You need to realize that the sanctity of beloved characters and stories holds importance for more than just those wierd autistic children's movie reviewers on youtube, it holds true for EVERYONE who made your IP popular in the first place. If they don't do a sonic movie tier design retcon this movie will be dead in the water.

Secondly, an out of touch 4th wall break early 2010s internet shrek memes being your first teaser for the movie is also horrible optics. A good trailer should show things that are new and interesting, not some horrible attempt at fanservice for a demographic that no longer exists. This reeks of ralph breaks the internet (a sequel of wreck it ralph that tried to ride on out of touch internet references and flopped hard for it). You can reference shrek memes in your movie, but it should be some off gag.

You could make a shrek meme reference actually funny quite easily too and they had the foundations for a funny joke. Shrek memes are old and irrelevant to the internet, so a joke playing on that, and using pinnochio's tendency of being a weird freaky guy would be perfect.
Instead of shrek looking up memes of himself, and pinnochio randomly lying about not making them when he wasn't even asked you could have this.

>Shrek is in the presence of pinnochio (as I assume he would be in a shrek movie at least once)
>While doing something relating to the main plot, pinnochio drops a bunch of photos of buff shrek like shown in the trailer
>Shrek is shocked and disgusted and angry and says something along the lines of "what the fuck is this?"
>Pinnochio frantically tries to explain to shrek that they are ironic joke drawings (his nose grows longer) and that they are a popular running joke on whatever the shrek equivalent of the internet is (his nose grows again)
>Shrek says we'll talk about this later (intending to pretend it never happened) and gets back to the plot task. Donkey will later remind shrek about it at another point in the movie annoyingly and piss shrek off

Thats funny

Sonic movies were fine and are a new thing thoughie

It's been said time and time again, 'Fans don't know what they want until they get it, and then when they have it, they want more of it.'

And also sequels are a result of gambling on new franchises. George Lucas thought Star Wars was going to be a failure.
