My point is that taking any single city doesn't mean much if you don't destroy their army. They can just regroup and keep fighting.

And taking Moscow wouldn't change the fact that around this time the Germans got bogged down and the Soviets had rebuilt their army and now outnumbered the Germans in the east.

How are you gonna fight when your central governance at the capital falls to an invading force? Fight for a government that does not even exist nor functions anymore? In this situation and front in ww2 and with all of stress and low-morale by that point without any more central government after it fell it wouldnt give any command and the soldiers would take this as a sign and chance to desert after all the pain especially since they couldnt fight for anyhthing or their government anymore I mean just look at berlin and germany at the later end of ww2 when the soviets took Berlin soon right after germany fell

I mean even in our universe when nazi forces were approaching moscow and had already tooken stalingrad along with many other major soviet cities in operation barberosa and were taking practically all of western russia the soviet military was already ready to give and some and alot were surrendering up even stalin thought on leaving the capital building and fleeing for safety

Just move the capital? It's really not that hard and has been done countless times in history were the leadership just moves to a different city to continue the fight. An example for WW2 is China. They lost their capital but continued the fight. They just moved to Chongqing.

The Soviet military was not "ready to give". They were planning their counter attack, which they then launched with great success.

Moscow was a railway hub or something. If the Germans took Moscow, it would've deprived the Soviets of that. Stalin also decided to stay in Moscow so there was a real chance of him getting captured or killed

How though, they tried in operation Typhoon and got repelled and the soviet counterattacks almost destroyed army group center, and even if they succeeded they would move the capital to sverdlovsk and keep fighting
