Germany's Rurh cities are the most depressing shit I've ever seen.
Most big cities are open-air garbage dumps, generally unclean and filthy, every building is in decay or postmodern concreteslop. Think Brussels or Paris without the impressive parts, leaving only the banlieues. Up until now the only decent German cities I've seen are Augsburg and Weimar. Berlin is on par with London or something.

Aside from the general decay, there is no city planning or coherent layout. Old industry is right next to a shopping center, highways cut through residential areas (without so much as a sound barrier) and public transport from metro's, trains to busses is unorganized and near unusable. Worst examples of this are Dresden, rebuilt to be ugly, and Koln.

The people are 1) asian ESL's, impossible to communicate with, 2) mudhammed hasibulla (knife in pocket) and 3) constipated middle-aged germans, who are all without exception rude and hostile, but can you really blame them? I've rarely seen millenial, zoomer or gen-X Germans, and my guess is anyone sensible raising kids has moved to the countryside.

The smaller medieval towns and Baiern are worth visiting though.
 
Go there pretty regularily (once every year or two) to see my family. It's nice, but I dislike german people, they act autistically and in a socially impaired way. It's annoying. It's like the japanese, everything they do is extreme, no nuance no middle ground.
 
I've been to Aachen
Very nice cathedral, djring the peak of summer in the middle of the day that stained glass in the dark cathedral is almost blindingly colorful, it was genuinely profound
The city itself is nice and supposedly had a few Roman ruins i didn't find, unfortunately it already rather touristy there
