Discussion /blox/ - Roblox General

I don't remember much from the early game probably as a result of progression I made during the day being obsolete by the time I woke up because I didn't get to fight many of the bosses. This only had stopped becoming a problem much later in the game around mid to late hardmode where it seemed me, Steve and Hagon were the only ones getting on, sometimes with dodder, and so we just waited for all three of us to be on before we fought any bosses. Unfortunately for the yuhropoors, they went to sleep before we usually got on and so they were locked out. Other people seemed to have lost interest, had issues joining the game or simply couldn't run modded. It was strange seeing the low player count nearing the end compared the apparent interest at the beginning.
unfortunate how unlike other games like minecraft theres not really much to do in terraria after you've beat moon lord in the first 3 days xdddd

yes i held back so much to not make a female caretaker who resides in the land of the pearly gates joke
or perhaps you believe it is actually a joke about an item of which it's creation originates to a place of divine sacredness of which god himself resides
the sun is missing for now and so is code that will make light actually disappear / rotate like the sun would for now

I don't understand why people are obsessed with old roblox, what made it so great was the community that was there not the client itself. The "muh nostaglia" crowd needs to grow up. [angry]
true but honestly the game was better back then in a lot of ways, ugc wasn't a thing, it actually had it's own identity and the community wasn't cancer.
the reason why the community is cancer today is because of roblox's poor decisions and desire to "innovate" but worsening the experience as a whole instead. people like me care about old roblox not necessarily for nostalgia, but on a more complex level, as for me personally, im remaking old roblox because i'm interested in how old roblox operates and what i'm doing is essentially reverse engineering it and rebuilding it in a new engine. such a thing is simply a technical task which i do for fun and while nostalgia is interesting, it doesn't necessarily hurt me in the ways you might think, etc.

i personally think that roblox was better back then, not because of nostalgia but because of what the game used to be capable of, i.e it's limitations.
roblox games these days are too powerful and thus not technically impressive anymore, as people basically use it as a game engine and not a game. Roblox used to be a game.
if anything, if its possible to get that old community back, then why wouldn't we try and have a crack at it? we don't need roblox imo, we need a new game someday, a game that has a community that isn't tarnished by poor company decisions. but who knows when that will happen, the sandbox genre of games is kind of dead imo, all we have is gmod and minecraft really.

that other game, i think it was called brick planet? or was it blockland, yeah, blockland. blockland had potential but it's dead now unfortunately.
The "muh nostaglia" crowd needs to grow up
imo the nostalgia crowd is definitely a bit stupid cus most of them never even experienced old roblox to begin with, but also imo if anything that just goes to show that even kids prefer older roblox to newer roblox because the differences between them are night and day, roblox actually used to be a lego brick building game, their slogan was "Be anything, build anything", it was a game about lego people building all kinds of things, but unfortunately these days, roblox is hardly about lego or building anymore. the stamper tools from 2012 are long forgotten and people rely a lot more on meshes and stuff now to the point where the blox part of roblox just isn't even true anymore. tldr, old games look like this:
1721120711969.png
1721120976227.png
1721121012339.png

new games look like this:
1721120738481.png
1721120861283.png
1721120932848.png

That is a pretty stark difference if you ask me.

and compare the old noobs to rohoes for example
Old characters:

new shitty avatars that the kids like these days:

1721121334955.png

yeah something changed man, idek what but the shit kids wear these days gives me such a weird vibe. I think everyone should go back to just being a mostly squarish character, don't even get me started on all the UGC furry shit, man. It's awful.

New games are better, roblox was meant to be a platform for unleashing the creativity of autists o algo so yea

words words words if you watch ruben sim you probably already know the deal but god some of the avatars i've personally seen are absolutely attrocious
regardless of all that though, like i said, roblox used to just be a lego building game and honestly that was all i really wanted roblox to be, it shouldn't be anything more or less, it's a game where you build shit. and i love building shit, but i hate real legos. i know you can build shit in minecraft, but it's not lego and it doesn't have the intricacies that an online game like roblox would.

building a lego death obstacle course and playing it with your friends is part of what made roblox fun, just playing around with its limitations and seeing what you could create.
and you're supposed to be building stuff for fun, because you want to do so, but nowadays it is not like that.

You're wrong.
Roblox today is not for unleashing creativity, it is solely for the purpose of money. Creators use AI thumbnails for their games and churn out simulators and garbage games with like 100 gamepasses to farm robux for the dev exchange. for many, roblox is no longer a game, it's a business. The same thing happened to Minecraft, really, servers used to exist for fun, but people started to get way too greedy, monetizing their servers to the point of adding p2w features that ruined the experience of playing the game.

When money gets involved, the fun ceases, and you end up with a platform that looks like this:
1721121907964.png
1721121930681.png
1721121962325.png
1721121975992.png
1721122003295.png

AI thumbnails, shameless copies and clones, weird kids baiting games and rohoe thumbnails.
Let me take you to the wayback machine just so you can see what was actually popular back with the kids when roblox was in it's golden ages:
1721122126473.png

While games are somewhat mostly similar in theme, eg "Survive the X" they were a lot more primitive and their thumbnails were a lot more descriptive, because they were ingame screenshots. When you clicked on a game, you knew exactly what you were getting into. Whereas today, the games quality is not shown to you explicitly, instead it's some dodgy AI thumbnail. Heres another screenshot, this time from 2014:
1721122272277.png

Much of the same deal, games being descriptive, showing you what's in them, and in my opinion, being of much higher quality. The games back then were actual games, nowadays roblox games are just slop designed to sell shit for money. Case in point:
1721122369148.png

Out of all of these thumbnails, you should notice they're designed to catch your attention and not be descriptive about the contents of the game, they appeal way too much to the kids and often include goofy gimmicks like "obby but you're an x" Still though, games like "obby but you're an x" are a lot better than most of the games on that list for it's simplistic thumbnail and easy to understand premise and it's not like Roblox was never flawed because lets be honest, people did copy eachother back then too, but honestly, just comparing the two from current day screenshots to random screenshots of old games on non specific wayback machine dates, it's clear to me that the games back then were of much higher quality, whereas games today are designed very much like youtube kids videos.

Not many simplistic roblox games nowadays get that much players, unfortunately. And if you yourself want to make a roblox game, you're shit out of luck. Trying to do so without money for advertisements or conforming to Roblox's algorithm will leave your game with absolutely no players whatsoever. That is exactly why all these games are so similar to eachother, people make what Roblox rewards them to make, and thus, Roblox nowadays is not a platform for creativity, it is a Trends algorithm, so much so that nowadays their game page is called "Charts"

is this how a ww2 vet feels like when people try to research how things were during their time? i played this shit in 2008
i joined and played in 2012 and it was mostly doomspire brickbattle, terrain building, personal build servers, welcome to roblox building and nintendo minigames for me.
i loved building shit the most, especially on welcome to roblox building. tycoons were pretty fun too.
to me, roblox was and always will be a lego building game.

TLDR, but nah you're wrong

Roblox wasn't about making games. It was the game. Old Roblox was like a playground. The entire thing is Roblox but each slide or monkey bars or whatever the hell, is a place. When you don't feel like playing Sword Fight on the Heights, you can just sit on the bench. Old Roblox was low quality. It was kinda rough around the edges, but as a kid you don't care. If you wanted to play a refined game, you would play Pokemon, Super Mario, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, whatever the kids played in the 00s. The problem with Old Roblox is the fact a lot of it was copypasted. The reward you get for people joining your place is Tix, which you used to be able to convert into Robux.

Modern NuBlox is significantly worse in comparison. I don't get why people like it. Why play Phantom Forces when you could play Battlefield? I could go on and on about this. Why even make shit for Roblox when it's a dead end. You are way more likely to profit from making a game on Game Maker and publishing it to Steam. Did you know Undertale was made in Game Maker? Now the guy is a millionaire. Don't fuck yourself in the ass and waste time and resources on making anything for Shitblox and do what NekoRights is doing and make a game on Game Maker. If you don't like Game Maker then Godot or whatever.

Going back to the topic of NuBlox, it's shit. The way they do things is mildly profitable and that's why they do it. Not to mention it's the best place for pedophiles to groom minors. Anyone over the age of eighteen must quit Roblox. I don't care what your excuse is for continuing to play it
its pretty much this that I agree with though, Roblox was an old playground, a sandbox, it directly advertised itself as the following:
1721124132888.png
1721124181643.png

An "online building toy" and "the FREE online building game."
Of course it was flawed, loads of people were copying and shit, but back then, nobody was really doing shit for money, sure you can get tix and convert it to robux but most people just spent that shit on cosmetics like shirts and hats and shit which mind you all looked like they belonged in roblox compared to UGC being as out of place as ever.

There is an issue with what you're saying however:
If you wanted to play a refined game, you would play Pokemon, Super Mario, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, whatever the kids played in the 00s.
most kids came to roblox for those games but to play them for free. We wuz poor n shit, man. I suppose it makes sense that many of those games are replicated on Roblox today, they're free alternatives to popular games, but that's not the Roblox that I signed up for.
Anyone over the age of eighteen must quit Roblox. I don't care what your excuse is for continuing to play it
I mostly agree with this too, but honestly, as a teen, we need a game like Roblox. I want a sandbox lego brick building game like Roblox back, a game with limitations that forced you to think outside of the box to achieve things, a game with jank, rough edges, a game where creating things that were never designed to be created in that engine is actually impressive, a game with cohesion and consistency. Not this shit we have nowadays with UGC and avatars that look like they belong in IMVU.
There's a fundamental disagreement between us, no amount of arguing is going to change that. I also don't care to debate some weirdo over his obsession with a game I haven't played in ages.
>you're wrong because i said so okay

Yes, I gave up with this discussion. Good job realizing that.
