I lost track if programming is still very profitable. Until some 2-years ago there was a hype for IT in the market, but then all big IT companies had their stocks corrected and they started laying off many of their employees and I don't really know what family of professions will be the next for the hype. Some 20 years ago there was a hype for management studies, but then everybody was laughing at these students with jokes like their only career path is McDonald's.

depends on where you live in. Where i live anything having to do with farming has slowly disappeared and become hard to find a job for, but on the contrary anything to do with IT has exploded and the demand for workers is high with no jeets around to take the jobs.
Try to think of more than two options o algo, because maybe farming will suck for you too.

Now he's scrambling to work in character.ai (kek), FROM AN IVY LEAGUE UNIVERSITY. Unless you actually have an deep interest for Computer Science, it's not worth it

to be honest the only people who are out of a programming job due to AI are CRUD jeets, anyone who's worth half an iq point more still has value in the job market.
You can tell an AI to make a shitty program for you, but good luck getting it to mantain it, some underpaid programmer is gonna have to stitch up whatever vomited mess of a code the AI spits out too if the prompt is for a very specific program, because the thing with AI is that it's not as understanding as a team of human programmers is for solving certain problems.

Outsourcing to India happens due to a lower cost of labour, and if the cost of labour outweighed the opportunity cost of lower quality programming they would've stopped long ago. Jeets being programmers has increased the competitiveness of the IT industry by a lot, thus lowering average salary for 1st world countries as well. You'd need a PhD or a Master's from an ivy league to even reach low 6 figures.
