hello, i see a lot of people on this website saying “yiff in hell” when talking about people who are overly-enthusiastic about animals. it doesn’t really matter if it’s fake or not. and i’m like “oh, this clearly means, you like animals that go yiff too much so GO YIFF WITH THEM IN HELL!” and that’s what i’ve always thought the phrase meant, because “yiff” is dog for barking. but right now i was curious and searched it up and frankly i am too stunned to speak..

yiff apparently means animal pornography? i always assumed it was the same thing as the other dog noises, because dogs make yiff as well. i don’t know what to believe anymore to be honest. (bow-wow, bark, woof, arf, yap, ruff, yip)

i believe garfield comic strips still use “yiff” when dogs speak? garfield and friends, and the garfield show used yiff when odie was speaking aswell. i think.. how strange. i swear all my life i’ve known “yiff” as a word for a dog barking because it was shown as such in media and in real life for me.

For some reason furries use the word "yiff" to refer to furry porn. I don't get it, it's probably due to the sounds that dogs make however

yeah but what’s strange is that when i just search up “yiff” i instantly get blasted with the inappropriate definition, there’s even a wikipedia page with a rather phallic looking image of some creature named after “yiff”!

i was expecting to just see the dog language when i searched up yiff, not that. because if you search up the other ones you get shown dogs.

>Yiff was part of a range of onomatopoeic words from a pseudo-language called Foxish used by the furry role-playing community, ostensibly created by a user named LittleFox or Foxen around 1990. Other terms used by this community included yip, yerf, yaff, yarf, growf and growlf. Yiff originally meant yes or an exuberant hello. According to LittleFox, the sexual connotations of yiff were influenced by yipp (derived from yip), which originally held these sexual connotations.[1][2] By 1992, yiff had been assigned a meaning of a sexual proposition,[3] and in modern use within the furry subculture, yiff exclusively refers either to sex between anthropomorphic animals, or pornographic depictions thereof.

frankly i feel like i just need some explanation, has “yiff” meaning a dog barking completely just been memoryholed? i swear media when i was a kid used “yiff” for dogs barking. maybe im just misremembering. but i swear it’s even still used now.

If you don't know the difference between an encyclopedia and a dictionary you're braindead
yeah, but i’m saying wikipedia and wiktionary? it’s like the same company, yo, those squares with the numbers probably just lead to wikipedia links. it’s just wikipedia but for words. catch my drift?

oh by the way. both wikipedia and wiktionary use the “wikipedia. the free encyclopedia.” and “wiktionary, the free dictionary.” you even said it yourself down here.
That's on Wiktionary, the free dictionary
clearly it’s the same. this is pretty easy information to understand.
