I did this shit when I tried to do social media like all my peers in high school, because I unironically didn't like looking at myself or showing myself because looking at myself reminded me of my own shortcomings for some reason, so I would post stupid memes and shit as an alternative way to express myself without sticking my neck out. I eventually realized how cringe I was and how social media wasn't interesting for me in the first place and retired to being IRL friends only.

Somewhat unrelated but I've noticed that about casual chit chat styled discussions online nowadays, especially on sites like Reddit and Discord, where if there's silence or "awkward tension" people will use memes to revive a conversation or break the tension and it's more annoying than it is beneficial. If they have nothing to say then they shouldn't post anything at all.
