They're called workspaces actually, you can create up to like 10 of them.

I need to get back onto Linux man, I miss the little QoL features that Windows doesn't have.
I just cannot stomach the shittiness of Wine and anything Arch-based though, it's complete babble garbage.
I transheart debian with muh comfy flatpaks.

I don't want my mother knowing about anything I do on the internet at all, I don't want to explain what a soyjak party is.

I need to get back onto Linux man, I miss the little QoL features that Windows doesn't have.
I just cannot stomach the shittiness of Wine and anything Arch-based though, it's complete babble garbage.
I transheart debian with muh comfy flatpaks.

If you get devuan or minimal ubuntu the process is a lot easier. I use i3wm for it's enhanced work flow, there is no alt-tabbing, just alt + numbering, you can easily switch to an empty workspace or create one and have like a multi montior setup on just one desktop.

Also wine is a lot easier now if you have steam, you can just run things through proton and 9 times out of 10 it just works

I'll definitely remember that next time I plunge back into using Linux, I used XFeces for the longest time and it got bothersome.

I don't have desktop icons because i dont need them, I press the windows key which brings up rofi and I type in application names to start them.
