Blud, my dad has like 3 bookshelves full of some obscure USSR chess books that he's scanning and translating. You're like baby elo, so your opinion is questionable at best. While it's true that you shouldn't learn more than a few there are a lot of them and all of them are useful depending on the oponent etc etc.Chess is a much simpler game
Memorizing opening theory is not that hard
You can even skip some theory by just not playing an opening, I don't have to memorize the Ruy Lopez because I always the Petrov defence against 2. Nf3, I don't have to memorize the Scotch because, again, I always play the Petrov agaisnt 2. Nf3
