• Happy pride month, xisters of the schlog!

what are your thoughts on half-life?

Solution
Half-Life is keyed in every way shape and form, the original game is actually my #1 favorite of all time and I can literally play it forever and ever, the expansions are really fun as well that expand the Black Mesa incident to a greater scale. The second game and its episodes are lesser IMO but are still 9/10s.

Valve's theme that you hear in the start of all of their games is actually just the theme from midway through Surface Tension, the longest chapter of HL1. Man the game's cinematics are still incredible today for a 20 year old game, like the tentacle in Blast Pit, the jets in Surface Tension. It's just incredible really I implore you play it; the game really set the bar for what a good singleplayer FPS is while still feeling...
I never noticed it. I kinda liked the chapter and the environment. It felt like the most half life part of the game
It feels like a brick wall to me every time I play the game, the atmosphere is alright, the feeling of going through the veins of the black mesa facility but if there's a most "half life" part of the game its Questionable Ethics, that just oozes half life.

Maybe I like taking it slow. I like games like Stalker where you have to think before you move since you die in a single hit from an AK74 so On a Rail didn't seem to limit me that much
There's this one bald blob motherfucker in SoC that I couldn't get past, then I ditched it and played Clear Sky and the same motherfucker appeared again, can never get past him and he makes me zoom into his face and kills me with his psychic energy, but besides that I wish I could get to the full games.

I know what you're talking about. They're controllers. You have to hide when you hear a sound otherwise they do the camera zooming psy attack
Well I'd have to restart the game I guess since I haven't touched either in like a year and I forgot everything, thx for the help though Mr. Anus.

The gameplay of 2 is such a downgrade compared to 1. The addition of the infinite ammo boxes made the game too easy even on hard
for me it's just the scripted dialogue, in half life 1 I never remember waiting on anything to happen I always just kill -> move -> kill -> move and like BL1 and BL2 story is told while I play the game

I hate half life 1.

It feels like in half life 1 every section is designed for you to be at maximum health. and that simply is not possible considering the hitscan nature of most enemies.
Getting low on health makes the game an absolute nightmare to play because your constantly dying over and over thanks to the hitscan enemies, having to save and slowly move up and up. Some parts are litterally dark souls level diffculty if your low on health like they never planned on the fact that sometimes you aren't always on max hp. There was one part of the game where air strikes were being called. If you were high on hp you were suppose to rush underground. But if you were low on hp there were soldiers who would shoot at you making it impossible to get down there. and there were NO health packs or anything. If you decided to sit there and pick at them under the safety of a room to prevent being blown up by the airstrikes in the open they would all rush you. and because you had no health you were fucked. Alot of things in the game that can instakill you or take 90% of your health are not telegraphed properly either. and I hate the enemies

lets take the zombie enemy in the game for example. These enemies are extremely easy and not fun to fight when you have ammo or a pistol. there just annoying just click click click. But when you dont have ammo and have to melee them they are also not fun to fight because they insta hit you with a undodgeable melee that eats at your health, and you cant predict or time it either because its random.

Lets take the soldier now. These enemies are hitscan meaning that they instantly hit you with no time like with guns in other shooters. There ability to melee instantly gives them more abilites than you the player has themselves(switching to the crowbar waiting for the crowbar animation to play is not the same as a instant melee) and they lobby gernades every time. Worst part about these guys is that they can carry shotguns, which instakill you if your on like 50hp. There is almost no way to tell that they are carrying shotguns without looking at them up close or stopping and staring which you don't have time for in combat.

The head-crab is even more annoying. They hide behind corners and jump at you giving you no time to react. If your low on health they can instakill you by camping in a corner and then jumping out the 0.0001 millescond you go past the corner before you even have time to look at them. again not telegraphing things. They should've made the headcrab make a ambient sound so players who are paying attention can sneak ahead. that would have made the "run THINK shoot live" marketing thing on the box be more true.

Xen and the later chapters are the perfect of everything I just said with no time to react or every sections demanding you have max hp. Its slippery platforming is also put on full display. its annoying to play and the enemys in zen are way to bullet spongey. Xen made me rage quit multiple times and that is saying something because I play halo 2 on legendary for fun and have completed halo 4 LASO(less than 1.67 percent of halo players on mcc have done that)

I hate the platforming sections to. Half life 1s movement feels really slippery and floaty.

I like half life 2. Its overrated gameplay wise though. the later chapters did not land so well and after you played it like 3-4 times it loses its fun value.

bait. I was meleeing zombies to save ammo when I was like 7 years old, they aren't hard to dodge.

the instahit. its almost impossiable to take on 2 of them with just a crowbar and not get hit at least once. you can time there attacks but again there random. you can 70% of the time prepare and dodge.

You never need to do that, you get the pistol before you find your first zombies and you're never running out of 9mm.
and it is still not fun. no strategy required at all. fighting close range is not fun and fighting with weapons is not fun with these guys. they are just not fun to fight

Still not using my ammo on an enemy that I don't need to lole.
The only hl game where melee isn't a meme is OP4 because you can one tap any medium sized enemy with your wrench.

Zombies are the worst enemy in the game and that isn't a debate, it makes me scratch my head why they invented a million versions for HL2 instead of bringing back the good aliens. Everything else is fun to fight but you can kinda just forget about the zombies, they aren't used much all game too.

erm last time I played half life I killed an alien grunt without taking damage (or at least not much i cant remember exactly) with the crowbar because I didn't have ammo for any good weapons

I never run out of ammo all game, you're constantly fed more shells and 9mm from fighting marines.

is the gluon gun just dogshit? You get it so late in the game I've basically never used it.
Its just a death laser, pretty good against grunts because you don't have to aim but killing one takes more energy ammo than a charged tau shot, its also good against the Gonarch and Nihalinth but that's pretty much it. Its just kinda lame, espically compared to the shenanigans the tau cannon can do.

I think in black mesa it gibs them better which probably makes it more fun to use, but in hl1 they just kinda disappear so it looks like shit lol. Also I don't think it has penetration like the tau cannon, so it's even more ammo.
