Have one of those (reproduction) and the prolonged reloading process would be forgivable but it's just not reliable, probably will fire 50% of the time.

I feel like if you had a original cap and ball revolver it would explode if you tried firing it

Because it's basically a modern firearm :P
It has a decent fire rate and reloading isn't a pain. Of course, range is an issue. Nonetheless, it'd work well within its range.
