I picked the show back up recently, I finished season 1 years ago but I remember the jist. Here are my comments so far:
1. The animation is bad. This is the obvious criticism everyone has, but it really is. It looks, in a weird way, "low FPS". All animation is, but this show especially. Also, the art style looks very angular and without much detail. It's like they colored in the earliest stage of linework. The fight scenes are very inconsistent. There are a handful of fight scene swhich compete with your average fight in an established action anime (shonen, mecha, it doesn't really matter). I think the comic artstyle can work very well but requires harder work than the anime style
2. The "filler" is boring. The characters are too normal, their relationships are too normal, I don't find their relationships very interesting. I don't care about his black gf, I don't care about his gay friend, and I don't even really care about his mom. Would be better to see Invincible doing some training once in a while. No wonder he's always getting his ass beat.
3. There is no female-centered fanservice in this show, but there is male-centered fanservice. Not just in terms of looks, but in terms of attitude. Women in this show are argumentative, empowered, serious, and individualistic, while men pretty much say all the right things that women want to hear and still get portrayed as "not doing enough". Invincible especially, but also the robot guy, and even Omni-Man sort of fulfils this role of "protector/provider" despite being le bad.
4. The powerscaling in this show is terrible. Invincible scales relative to elite viltrumites but regularly gets his ass kicked by earth villains and earth monsters that are New Guardians of the Globe tier. A guy who was taking full-force lethal punches from viltrumites should not even be getting bruised by Yakub bighead.
5. That deathbattle video was fucking retarded. Nobody in this verse stands a chance against Bardock.
