party dictatorship

This even doe I’m fit to be a master and a leader and whatnot"A great deal of democratic enthusiasm descends from people like Rousseau, who believed in democracy because they thought mankind so wise and good that everyone deserved a share in the government. The danger of defending democracy on those grounds is that they are not true... I do not deserve a share in governing a hen-roost much less a nation. Nor do most people... The real reason for democracy is just the reverse. Mankind is so fallen that no man can be trusted with unchecked power over his fellows. Aristotle said that some people were only fit to be slaves. I do not contradict him. But I reject slavery because I see no men fit to be masters." - C.S. Lewis
I agree with Lewis's reasoning, but I think his own logic defeats his conclusion. Better to serve one wicked man as opposed to all of them at the same time."A great deal of democratic enthusiasm descends from people like Rousseau, who believed in democracy because they thought mankind so wise and good that everyone deserved a share in the government. On some level, you could consider democracy as the better alternative as the wicked men would be too busy fighting to efficiently push their bad ideas onto the public, leaving some room for lower autonomy.I agree with Lewis's reasoning, but I think his own logic defeats his conclusion. How is this better?Instead of one evil guy who might still be able to help the country, why not get a bunch of different evil guys who hate each other to guarantee everyone's lives will be miserable as a result of infighting and bureaucracy.
Nothing will ever happen so you can more comfortably ignore what they do, if you're so inclinedHow is this better?
Nothing will happen until one of them kills the others, so you end up with a dictator except it's not the one you wanted.Nothing will ever happen so you can more comfortably ignore what they do, if you're so inclined
