Serbian (and the local offshoots) is a bit of an oddball among slavic languages because it sounds very distinct. Slavic languages have a habit of sounding rather soft, especially Russian, but not Serbian. Serbian has very rough, hard sounds. I'd even go so far as to say it sounds more like Italian than it's slavic counterparts, probable influence from Romans/Italians/Greeks
