I find it interesting that tales of gunslingers and outlaw gangs transcend any specific musical era or genre. If there's a population that has been historically, seriously affected by them (rural Whites of the frontier, urban Blacks of the ghettos), and this population has a dominant cultural genre of music (country and folk, rap and hip-hop, respectively), these tales will be adequately reflected in their music no matter which particular genre or people they're coming from.
