No, I just believe it should be heavily restricted and censored depending on where you are. If I was in charge of the Turkish internet for example, I'd start off by banning a shit ton of websites and all VPN's. I'd get close to North Korea when it comes to the scale of this censorship. I wouldn't entirely ban foreign media/entertainment but I'd put conditions before it can be available to any Turk, so if it contains content that would be contrary to the Turkish value set I'd ban it. Same principle would apply for everything in general. And if someone doesn't like what I'm doing, well, nothing a few years of prison can't solve.

It was around 2016 when the tides turned for censorship because normies complained about muh heckin hate speech. It wasn’t that long ago you could say nigger on Reddit and only suffer a slap on the wrist.

Glad you asked. First of all, I get your frustrations with censorship, you want le old days of the internet back when it was a mere hobby/tool for escapism without politics and woke shit. I too think that time was neat, but the fact is, that time is gone and there is no going back to it. The internet is not limited to the use of a minority of geeks anymore and it's used by most people worldwide. This gives way to information wars which in turn means you can't just let your people consume the content on the internet so freely because obviously foreigners don't have our interests in mind, they just want to push their globohomo agenda through it. This is the ultimate purpose of so many apps like reddit, no matter where you go within the app you will see the same narrative being pushed. It is not limited to westoids either, I lurk on Turkish speaking subreddits and the narrative is the exact same shit.

Now to get to my point, I consider my side of the internet to be my nation's "territory" so to speak. Westoids do NOT have the right to decide how my people will or should think. All nations have the right to self determination, therefore China has the right to set its own ideological narrative in the same way any country has that right including Turkey. So you ask why? This is why. This is why all this censorship and extreme crackdowns, because I simply don't want Turks to fall victim to the globohomo agenda. Yes, I get it. You fucking hate this and how the internet is used for politics so much. But there is simply no turning back the clock. Don't hate me for wanting to be a good player, hate the game. The winning formula does not say "let's all have muh free speech." The winning formula says "I am right. And I will enforce my will through force if need be." It's simply about protecting the moral fabric of the society I live in.

maybe the social elements of the internet could be limited to only nationally but the information based elements like articles and essays could be international? i too do not want to share an internet space with certain species but sometimes it’s refreshing to know your country isn’t the worst.
