I was thinking about the AR platform and I realized that I only like the older rifles, like maybe early 2000s with like quad rails at the latest
These modern guns are so fucking ugly man they have the color of coffee when you add too much milk and all these retarded gizmos and faggot lights

I'd imagine the actual utility of the gun improved overtime, so they stopped caring about how cool it looked at all because at this point Abu Hajar isn't going to turn tail in intimidation at the sight of an M4's appearance from across the battlefield before he already gets obliterated by the countless other weapons of the American military.

I think you're throwing away the baby with the bathwater, I think carry handle and A-frame irons are cool, and they definitely look better (considering that's what the rifle was designed for) but I will take a red dot or prism scope over the old ones any day. It's so much easier to accurately hit stuff, especially at distance. And yeah, quad rails suck but we had to walk before we could run, the run being M-lock which I think is fantastic, smooth profile with mount space anywhere.

Fixed carry handles are def better than A4-style detachable ones because you can mount an optic in the groove and use it as a handle without screwing up the zero, I think trijicon made the ta-33 specifically for that purpose and that's probably the only one that offers real utility. Carry handles are nice on heavier guns like the FAL and original ar10 but they never made sense to me on the smaller, lightweight 55.6 guns.

The detachable ones are tacky imo, especially when someone mounts an optic on one... that's mounted to a rail itself. I really have no idea why they kept the carry handle on the AR-15 for so long, like as you said it makes sense on heavy stuff (which the AR-10 it's based off of could fall into) but they just kept it there until it became a real issue
