It's currently the Stanley Cup playoffs this year and for once either Pittsburgh, the Bruins, the Flyers, or my beloved New York Rangers have made it into the playoffs.
To add insult to injury, this is the first time since 2016 that C*nadian teams have wormed their way into the playoffs.
As for the first round, the Caps (who I will be supporting as the Rangers aren't in) beat Montreal in 5 games. Florida beat Tampa in 5. Edmonton beat LA in 6. Toronto beat Ottawa in 6. Carolina beat New Jersey in 5. Vegas beat Minnesota in 6.
All that left is game 7 between Colorado and Dallas tomorrow and the current series between the St. Louis Blues and the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets lead 3-2, but the Blues are currently winning game 6 5-1, meaning that we're probably gonna see another game 7 in round one.
For those who don't follow hockey, the teams currently with the most momentum are the Caps (because Ovechkin got the goal scoring record and they've managed to rebuild their team), the Oilers (because they've managed to beat their primary rivals and McDavid is playing better than he ever has), Winnipeg (they finally no longer suck) and Florida (because they're the defending champions).
We're seeing an incredibly rare series of events between the lack of the big four on the East Coast, a broken scoring record, the large number of Canadian teams qualifying, and lower profile teams in the West playing some of their best hockey ever.
