I believe it's frowned upon to have one in the instance that they aren't used for work (for hunting or watching, I believe it's specified. In a stretched circumstance, perhaps they could classify any dog as a watch dog since all can bark at threatening noises to alert the owner), but I'm certain the followers of Muhammad still feel some sympathy and love for the animals, of course.
