Depends on what generation or era, a lot of the eccentric and creepy animators working on media back in the '80s and '90s intentionally sexualized the anthropomorphic designs to indoctrinate kids who grew up in that era to have a fetish for humanoid furry characters. Where those animators got their fetish from? I have no fucking idea and I don't know if I wanna know.

I remember hearing about how a lot of the earlier furry conventions from back in the '70s to around the early '90s was nothing but sex, drugs and a shit ton of other degenerate behavior, so if you were a weirdo or a social outcast and knew some people who were like Donald mentioned "disconnected from reality" just completely detached, this would've been an easy thing to be apart of because of the """"benefits"""" you attain from being apart of it. Have as much sex, do as much drugs, drink as much alcohol as you want, you just have to LARP as a furfag.

TL;DR this community was doomed from it's inception

Somewhere in this photo is a guy by the name of Mark Merlino who died in February earlier this year, this photo was taken in 1979 at an animation convention, guy in the middle is Osamu Tezuka who according to wikipedia was a japanese manga artist who was active between 1946-1989 (died in 1989 at 60 years old).

Mark also happened to screen anime flicks for his friends and colleagues at his home back in the 1970s and 1980s, he eventually became a prominent figure in the furry community by some means and did a bunch of snca at some point.

I haven't forgotten, I've been looking at the Kiwifarms thread about him every now and then, checking in to see what new info they've dug up about him, I find him to be very intriguing individual in spite of his atrocious and deplorable behavior, the fact that he has two siblings, a brother and a sister, both of whom are still alive and have nothing to do with him directly, although extremely obvious given the kind of person he's shown himself to be time and time again, still speaks volumes about how much of an unwanted nuisance this guy is that his own family wants absolutely nothing to do with him, and for good reason. I don't know if they're entirely aware of his "schoolboy" persona. I assume they just knew he was off for who he was whenever they had to deal him.

They've applied the mentality of which they treat memes to practically everything that occurs online, regardless of whether or not it's genuinely serious.
One moment they pretend to care about something so deeply and so passionately to impress their fellow internet buddies, the next they're flippant about it because they've already forgotten about it, but when you bring it up they flare up like they always cared and haven't forgotten.

I remember this one youtuber years ago who got exposed as a groomer and for the life of me I can't remember his username, and so many people online were just up this guy's ass for ages that you couldn't stop hearing about him for quite some time, well guess what? he eventually comes back to Youtube and makes a successful return, it's like whatever happened as of previous just never happened at all, some people were rightfully outraged and tried to bring attention to this guy's return, but it was all in vain.
