Sonamy is the ship between Sonic and Amy Rose.

Since the inception of Amy Rose, there's been valiant fans stead-fast on making Sonamy the definite ship, this flared up particularly bad during the mid 2000s as the Archie comic books at the time were notorious for being filled to the brim with shipping-wars and love-triangles, which by extension leaked into the fandom and its per-existing slop.
Picrel is the best example I could find as it was physically printed in the back of one of the many Archie issues fan sections.

It's since died down but there's still a lot of valiant rightous faggots out there still trying to keep Sonamy as the aforementioned "definite ship".
The whole "dying breath" part is in reference to the fact that one of the main writers on the franchise now "Ian Flynn" has openly expressed how he prefers the likes of "Boom Amy" over the pre-existing obsessive Amy from the likes of Sonic Riders. (or in simpler terms, the ship is slowly fading out due to writing changes)
