However I was a seething Apple hater (and tbf iPhones fucking sucked back then) so I made my mom trade it in for a HTC One M7, the camera and battery life sucked but it was such a beast of a phone, God I miss it

I go outside and when I do, I don't bring my phone with me. I don't like phones all that much, they're useless pieces of garbage.

It's possible to still go out without a cell phone. I usually just carry a tablet which can make calls over Wi-Fi and occasionally a public telephone if I encounter one. When making calls I usually just use my landline inside my room. I do have a cell phone but most times it just sits in my drawer.
