Imagine humanity establishing contact with extraterrestrials for the first time. How do you think they would look like?

There is the argument they would look like us because the same filters and processes apply. The same way the crab shape keeps evolving independently, what circumstances gave monkeys a dexterous humanoid form? How do these conditions, like manipulating tools, coincide with other tasks that may help intelligence evolve like ballistic calculations and social calculation?

Are other dexterous forms like squids probable to develop human-like intelligence within their context, from some equivalent environmental pressures? I don't feel that it is probable, but not impossible. I think Dolphins and elephants could be much more intelligent if they were dexterous.

But even if they would be humanoid, obviously aliens wouldn't look exactly like carbon copies of humans. There is variation in humans, and aliens would at minimum be a reroll of all the racial traits that can evolve. Would we see exotic skin pigments like red or green? Maybe, but why if we already see a tendency in the subset of pigments used in human skin? We might see the same nose types evolve from the same original climates? They might start with a different range of feasible ecosystems, like if they started with some traits that allowed them to live at higher altitudes or dive underwater for longer. (kind of like the denisovans) I wonder if aliens would have an idealistic vision of Eden that differs greatly from ours- the green grass and trees, the slight valley, the river. What if they had more use for the coastal environment while evolving?

I wonder how a universalist enlightenment liberal western culture would develop in a world where there were a more undeniable distinction between breedable and sapient foreign humanoids. If whites and blacks were unable to interbreed, how would that be interpreted? What if some races, rather intelligent and otherwise, were feasibly able to interbreed with fundamentally lesser species with no signs of intelligence? Much of psychology of racism has been textured by the dual threat/opportunity that a genetically compatible population has. How does hostility change when neither you nor your enemy have any biological motive to steal brides? (those with attraction to incompatible females breed themselves out)

They could evolve from some other primates instead of chimps. You could imagine vestiges of a gorilla skull remaining after an expension of the skull space. I don't know if exotic vestigial traits like throat pouches and bright red chests would last, but I don't have a reason to cite for that.

Anyway, to answer your question think about some human type like Venezuelans for some reason but they evolve with different conditions like needing to store lots and lots of fat for the climate or whatever and imagine if all humanity descended from 150 random specimens of that and they liked gooning to soytan.
