It's different if you have, like, some dude from the other side of the world in there, because then there could be some legitimate cultural incompatibility, but, if I'm correct, this guy has been born and raised there, from a family who likely assimilated just fine with the South Asian island people, and there's a far smaller body of water between him and the homeland you're saying he should return to.
