I think you can have discussions on imageboards it's just that they're more likely to get derailed and easier to derail because everyone's an anon, though responding back to the person that initially responded to you is a bit tricky, so the threads on the site as a whole are much more fluid and malleable. And although subjective, I think it's also better when the threads move slowly, it's much more chaotic and fucked when it's a bunch of people gathering in a singular thread, especially when the threads that move faster are more likely to be porn dumps anyway.

Well actually using "gem" in slang form predates the Sharty by quite awhile, and given Elon's age, I don't think he's actually using the term gem in the soyspeak sort of way, but just in the kind of way somebody over 30 would use it, which is virtually the same regardless.
