Serious Do we shape myths or do myths shape us, which one is more true?

Started pondering a little on this question, what I mean by myths is like any societal narrative be they true, false somewhere inbetween or beyond.
I'd say they shape us more than we shape them, doe it goes both ways.

I think it's both because parents tell white lie to keep their children safe and when those children grow up, They tell their children the same thing
