Background checks do nothing because the vast majority of gun violence is done with illegally purchased firearms. The rest is mostly stolen firearms, or first time are offenders which wouldn't be caught with background checks. Yes, background checks do prevent some crimes, however their main purpose is to help the ATF spy on law abiding gun owners. There is an argument for background checks, however how they currently exist is unacceptable.

because back then it was easy to get away with being a serial killer and now with advanced technology it's harder so most people just go on clitty leaking killing sprees because they know they'll get caught anyway

One reason might be that it's much harder to get away with a long spree of covert serial killings than to rush into a public area one day and start blasting people.

It's smart of these schmucks to rid themselves off this planet while they still have time, but even then it isn't because they're smart, as they in the end are only thinking of themselves and don't want to face the repercussions of their actions, making them cowardly, the reason for it is inherently selfish just as them going around and killing anybody they see.
