btw here are 2 mostly accurate replicates of macuahuitls(the last authentic pre-columbian macuahuitl was destroyed in a fire)

pic 1 is more accurate as most macuahuitls did not have a clear distinction between the shaft and handle.

pic 2 is somewhat accurate, however the patterns(such as the diamond one) do not match any known mesoamerican engraving/symbols. the bottom two and the top one seem accurate though.

most weapon reconstructions of mesoamerican weapons are based off depictions from codices

this is so cool, how does the obsidian not break while piercing the armor?
idek. it was reported to do so by bernal díaz del castillo.

macuahuitls are very sharp due to the obsidian, enough to decapitate a man..

even a horse.

"Pedro de Morón was a very good horseman, and as he charged with three other horsemen into the ranks of the enemy the Indians seized hold of his lance and he was not able to drag it away, and others gave him cuts with their broadswords, and wounded him badly, and then they slashed at the mare, and cut her head off at the neck so that it hung by the skin, and she fell dead"

- Bernal Díaz del Castillo
