It's tragic really. Europeans had religion commanding their morals, and they built society piece by piece over centuries until the industrial revolution.
So many other peoples got to skip at least half of that growth and become industrialized in a matter of decades. They just couldn't have been prepared for the comforts and vices that brings, like so many native Americans drinking themselves to death, favela shitholes in South America, and warlords/cartels openly waging war in the streets.
The Japanese were animals charging machine gun pits with swords, i can see how modern porn would be a disaster for people with such a self-destructive nature. Especially after the war, with so many of them traumatized or basically rabid, and with the enemy that they were supposed to kill themselves before surrendering to now patrolling their streets and enforcing their own laws.
I actually wonder if our occupation stopped the place from becoming more like South Sudan: they couldn't take out their frustration with violence without us stepping in, so they turned to porn. I wonder if drugs and alcohol are big over there, I've never really heard anything about it.

I will say, it is impressive that even there they frown upon being an open gooner, from what i understand. They have tons of places for men to go, but they go to those places instead of shutting down a main road for 2 days so they can fist eachother where everyone can see (at least, I think that's how japan is)

I don’t think it’s a historical issue. They live like hives in shoeboxes with pitiful rates of marriage due to a lack of housing and work traditions. They still have all that sexual energy they need to put somewhere tho.

People say Aqua Team Hunger Force is good but I haven't sat down to watch it myself, there's always something more appealing to me out there. Back on topic however, I did find Ghost Stories really funny, 10/10 anime.

as for animes I genuinely liked and weren't just boring moeslop I forced myself to sit through because I felt I had something to prove:
Eva (really cool lore), JoJo (I was young), Yu gi oh 4kids dub (I was young), I watched Another with a friend when I was a kid and that was cool. And if we're talking games, 999 nonary game was aryan (I miss my brother..) I also have good memories of watching kubz scouts play yandere sim. And I guess I liked yokai watch (the anime) when I was a kid. I even have a jibanyan figurine. Maybe I'll play the 3ds game someday. And speaking of Dual Screens, Ace Attorney was a gem, I need to replay 1-4 some day and play the rest (I miss my brother x2).
