Because in the best case scenario you'd be dedicating thousands of hours to mastering a language that (as I've already said) will no longer be useful very soon. More than likely you'll just practice maybe an hour a week and then forget about this though.

Not everyone can learn a new language; some don't have the discipline, some lack the genuine brainpower, some aren't invested enough, blah blah blah. I'm not saying you can't but your Japanese progress is probably shit even after 5 years.
I wish I could learn Mandarin sometimes for le heckin CNWO, though it'll never happen.

I don't care, I'm gonna unwatch the thread, because if I stay I'll just get into more derailing arguments about people telling me what to do, so. I'll get anki, practice the alphabet, see where I go with it. Playing TF2 will help to remind me and motivate me as I keep seeing more and more Russians. I should get a book too, perhaps, maybe Russian news reports, something to help me find new words and learn them.

It's very hard to motivate yourself to learn a language when you know the ultimate language lingua franca English already.
