Wtf does "wrong genitals" mean? How can you have the wrong genitals?
I mostly see it as a progressive mental disorder that is usually sexually arousing like a fetish, especially in MtF trannies. Sometimes people troon out though because they don't fit into gender roles or hate their gender roles, but that seems less common than the former.

People with medically diagnosed "gender dysphoria" commonly have fucked up genetials which could indicate that it is caused by hormone irregularities during pregnancy

That's called being intersex or having a disorder of sexual development (DSD). I remember seeing a study on r/detrans about it saying that the commonly cited 1-2% statistic was bullshit and it was much rarer to be born with it than that. I don't have it rn albeit.
EDIT: not the same study but it is quite rare if you exclude 'Late onset adrenal hyperplasia', it's basically when a girl/woman produces too much testosterone in the adrenal glands but they aren't even born with it, so it shouldn't lead to gender dysphoria
