no, chimpanzees didn't need to evolve in their environments they were fine as they were, occupying a stable niche in the food chain. We can only build mri machines because of the generations of knowledge our species has accumulated over the years

there were no such reasons causing hominids to evolve complex thought... what did cause it? language, writing, agriculture, but u cant rly have that without a prerequisite intelligence and there was no evolutionary requiremennt, no sleective pressure selecting for such comp,lex rationalistic intelligence ..

It evolved over time, we did not start with complex maths and geometry, it started with a thing as simple as the first monkey throwing a stone, with each generation only the smartest hominids survived until we became the dominant species in the african savannas.

this is a societal problem we started to face in the last couple of centuries, nothing to do with our evolution

They did not get their abilities from older ancestor nor did their ancestors do something similar

that's where the language and elders teaching the newer generations comes into play, monkeys do that too and so all the higher intellect (mammalian specifically) species

why do u think our environment required such high intelligence and usage of tools? and yes there is plenty stopping us, evolution stops if a mutation is bad, it cant see into the future and searches for it 'greedily', you say we started to select for the intellect but evolution has no will behind it, there is no intellect behind it, there was no selective pressure to become sapient
