Catholics opposed Hitler because their priests opposed Hitler, but in areas with "brown priests" (referring to the clothing of the SA, not to anyone's skin color) Catholics supported Hitler just as much as Protestants. Austria was likely just as pro-Hitler as mainland Germany and Austrians were overrepresented in the SS.
