Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) says:
[(7:54) Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, [another night] chasing it rapidly; and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds.]
Firstly, the verse speaks of the creation of the heavens and the earth in six days:
Reading the reviews made by Muslim scholars on the creation of the heavens and the earth in six days, we will deduct that only Allah knows the accuracy of these periods. That is why I have always said in my several answers about these six days of creation to being periods of time of same duration and can be very long.
Secondly the ESTABLISHMENT of His Majesty (سبحانه وتعالى) on the throne:
According to one authentic Hadith, before creation God was, and nothing existed, He created water [first creation] and then His throne on water.
Allah Almighty (سبحانه وتعالى) is above the throne, above the heavens, above all of His creation:[(20:5) The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.]
[(16:50) They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.]
And the Quran says the same thing, in this following verse:
[(11:7) And it is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days - and His Throne had been upon water - that He might test you as to which of you is best in deed. But if you say, "Indeed, you are resurrected after death," those who disbelieve will surely say, "This is not but obvious magic."]
That Allah Almighty (سبحانه وتعالى) Rose (Istawa) over His Throne because He {(He is the) Doer of whatsoever He wills} [85:16], and not because He is in need of the Throne, for Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) is independent from the Throne and other than the Throne.
Imam Malik said in his famous statement, answering someone who asked him “How did He (Allah) Istawa on His Throne?”:
«The “Istiwa” is not unknown, the how-ness is not comprehensible, asking about it is an innovation, and believing in it is compulsory.»
Thirdly the proceeding of the night and day:
And this is the theme of the asked question, Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) speaks of succession of facts, the night over the day and the day over the night. And this action cannot be achieved only if the earth is round which is the case [it is a formal evidence to contradicting those who say that the Quran says that the earth is flat]
In this fragment of verse, Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) talks about the removal of the night's envelope to allow the appearance of the day to take place, and so on.
The question that comes to mind is "why Allah has called a night an envelope?"
Simply Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) created man weak [(4:28) And Allah wants to lighten for you [your difficulties]; and mankind was created weak.]
Humans need to sleep to restore, and a better recovery cannot be done only overnight, in total darkness, the pineal gland plays a big part in the secretion of melatonin, also called "sleep hormone", is best known as the Central hormone regulation of chronological rhythms being synthesized mainly at night, so melatonin appears to have multiple functions other than hormonal, in particular as antioxidant [anticancer].
Fourth, the sun, moon, and stars are provided for us for multiple roles. All this complexity of things made for us, are constantly under His power, and His knowledge.
