In the US it's in a rather unique position, unlike Instagram or Xitter almost everyone has a solid chance of having a Discord account (normal people and losers). Even if it's electron slop, it's still really streamlined and easy to use. The only people that haven't adopted it are usually Gen X or older.

It's the biggest and most popular site within it's medium, also the way it generates communities is different from other social media sites, with a lot of the communities being started up manually, rather than a group of people interested in a given subject or topic to ramble about for hours on end and getting together, it's more like Reddit than sites like Twitter.

It's kind of the same reason why Deviantart and Furaffinity (the biggest art websites) are filled to the brim full of the wackiest most autistic shit imaginable compared to their smaller contemporaries o algo.

That's true. You don't need to have anything interesting to post in order to have a successful discord account. Unlike Instagram where you need to have pictures and citter where you must have something unique to say. Any loser can be successful on discord
