MPV is a fat piece of shit when it comes to Movie and DVD playback unless you want to tinker-tranny it while MPC-HC just werks.

Downloaded version of the movie or DVD of the movie is used to watch. If I am using a DVD, I sometimes play it in a DVD player instead. Also, I have a very weird non-smart TV sitting around that has a DVD player built into it and while I haven't tested it, I am actually starting to suspect there's a chance it will work well. I may attempt to use a DVD soon in it, because if that works, I could just watch movies on that instead of needing my laptop for a movie. Although, I don't watch movies much so it won't make a huge difference daily, more so in the rare off-chance I actually do watch something that I also paid for.

I have a very weird non-smart TV sitting around that has a DVD player built into it and while I haven't tested it, I am actually starting to suspect there's a chance it will work well.

I had one of those at one time, it was some 32" Best Buy generic brand TV. In my experience it worked pretty well, in fact mine had a lot of neat controls near the drive slot. Not sure if it's a standard DVD drive though and it might've been a bitch to replace.

I am particularly surprised by the TV I listed because until that point, I never saw an actual television with a DVD player in it. If it ever broke, it would be annoying to replace I am sure, but until then, it is actually very cool it is there, even more so since it isn't a smart TV therefore it doesn't have tons of bloat, and I could probably just control it with the buttons right under the screen-border. As long as I don't need a remote in order to use it, it should be fine. Otherwise I will just continue using that TV as I did before, as an extra screen for whatever I need.

For some reason, normies keep wanting bigger and bigger TVs with higher and higher quality resolutions, even though I stop seeing a difference after 1080p, and would rather just sit slightly closer to the TV if it became hard to see a TV from more than a few feet away. I won't ever put a TV in my future living-room, so I won't just sit on a living-room couch to watch something. Anytime I am using a television, I not only have a specific reason to use it, but I am probably not going to sit far away (far enough that I won't fuck my vision, but close enough that I can actually see it well). As a result of the normie wanting so many televisions for some reason, I end up collecting them and therefore having like 5+ TVs which I have never paid for, and I will never pay for a TV due to this.

Regardless, I'll have to mess around with it soon. I can't remember the exact model of the television otherwise I'd list it here (and currently the unused TV is still at a family member's house, so I'll have to wait until I go back there to get it).

Biggest problem is that not a lot of media even supports it, and the stuff that does has such an abysmal bitrate it doesn't matter anyway. My Xbox (Series S) can't render games at that resolution, and even the high-end Series X can only do it with upscaling at 30 FPS lmao. TVs are dying out and it's a good thing, fuck the smart crap they put on them nowadays.
The day they introduce smart features and internet connectivity to mainstream computer monitors (hopefully that never happens) is the day I'm just gonna be done with new shit entirely. I can already see it now: AI "picture enhancement" and built-in Roku/FireTV bullshit. After all, cheap ARM SoCs are everywhere now, they could totally fit some Pi sized piece of shit in one.
Honestly you might be able to make some money in the future from the non-smart TVs, they're becoming rare lol

4K in and of itself isn't really impressive, it's display tech like OLED that's the cool part, my parents upgraded from a 10 year old Sony LCD to an LG OLED and the picture just comes off as far more vibrant. I suppose this isn't an issue if you were a PlasmaGOD as those had similar black levels
I wish they'd stop cramming Smart TV shit into the panels though, no one uses them anyway as they become sluggish af and people just buy set-top boxes to replace them
Also they're coming out with "smart monitors", I walked into a Costco and saw the LG monitor I use updated with their gay WebOS (would be straight and aryan and kino if it was on a Palm Pre thoughever) interface, enjoy them while they last
