The idea of God is outdated.
Back in the times of le ancient jews your world was as big as your town and the neighboring ones maybe. Also they had different moral standards, they even thought smashing the skulls of infant children against rocks was acceptable.
You can't really quote the same old book from hundreds of years back and expect it to still make sense.

Religion is a farce, we're told to respect people's beliefs which is hilarious considering that nobody respects anyones beliefs. Christians, Muslims, Jews, Atheists, they all fight eachother, everyone is fighting to be "the one true way of believing things" and it's just ridiculous. To respect a Christian's belief is to fully adopt it and accept the holy and righteous truth, which just disrespects everyone else's beliefs. The religious types quite frankly don't care about anyone except for themselves, that's why there are infidels, the non believers, the goyim. Selfish little bastards that have caused so much pain in the world, to think that if none of these concepts existed, the world might have been better off.

I suppose religion is more like a pain in the ass of society that's been around since the medieval ages, something that'll keep us tribalistic monkeys.

None of this is false, what's false is that you believe God does these things for you just to make your life or our lives interesting. Sounds like coping to me.
God is an asshole, bad things happen, character development happens as a consequence, it doesn't happen because God want's it to happen. God doesn't kill loved ones because he wants you to grow as a person, that's retarded.

I am also agnostic, not atheist, I believe God is real but he's just an asshole. Religious people mischaracterize him, they call him God, Allah, whatever. It's obvious to me that there is a god, it's more fitting that something created us than it all happening by just pure chance. Praising God is kind of pathetic, in my opinion, I don't even think he wants our praise.
