It just occurred to me that I don't even know what pokemon is despite hearing the name over a hundred times.

You don't know of it at all? It's that series of video games where you throw little devices at animals to capture them, and then you use their magic powers to fight other animals. It's also a card game.

My favorite haunted rags witch mismagius and it's pre Evo misdreavus, followed by the clay mech golurk and the chandelier of death chandelure, very nice pokemon overall

Fair, I have a bit of trouble picking a solid #1 favorite since I like quite a few, so I cycle my signature sometimes with my ~#1s to #10. My favorite gen 5 Pokémon that's not a starter is probably Bisharp
