i remember getting taught to use one of these.
these are credit card imprinters, probably responsible for 80% of credit card fraud 20-30 years ago, and a shining example of pre-9/11 trust people had. basically what these things did was you would place a paper on the board and then someone’s credit card and then you would slide the bar to create a literal carbon copy of it, security code and everything. now-a-days it’s digital and most devices hide the security code from the prying eyes of the employee.I know nothing of them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this piece of technology before.
your local business, doesn’t matter if it’s small or a chain, 100% has one of these in storage. these are still used in case of power outages, because normal credit card readers wouldn’t be able to work.these are credit card imprinters, probably responsible for 80% of credit card fraud 20-30 years ago, and a shining example of pre-9/11 trust people had. basically what these things did was you would place a paper on the board and then someone’s credit card and then you would slide the bar to create a literal carbon copy of it, security code and everything. now-a-days it’s digital and most devices hide the security code from the prying eyes of the employee.
if you think the waiter taking away your card to pay for your restaurant meal is sketchy, then you would’ve been terrified of these.
