Having been born in 1995, I belong to a micro-generation known as zillennials - people who are sometimes called millennials and sometimes called zoomers. When we refer to ourselves as zoomers, we are told that we are millennials. When we refer to ourselves as millennials, we are told that we are zoomers. Zillennials have the characteristics of both generations.
Some put generation Z at 1997 - 2012 or 1997 - 2010. Others put it at 1995 - 2012 or 1995 - 2010. Many put the first year of generation Z at 1996 as well. Nowadays, however, I often see a lot of people putting the first year of generation Z at 2000. The World Book Encyclopedia defines millennials as people born from 1981 - 2001. According to Neil Howe in his book Generations: The History of America's Future, 1584 to 2069, millennials are people born from 1982 - 2005, as generations have been lasting longer due to delayed marriage and childbearing. However, Generations, iGen, and Generation Me author Jean M. Twenge defines millennials as people born from 1980 - 1994 and zoomers as people born from 1995 - 2012. Many other generational scholars use that definition as well, while I've never seen anyone else use The World Book Encyclopedia's definition or Neil Howe's definition. The definitions vary wildly because, ultimately, it's a completely arbitrary distinction with zero actual science behind it. However, there is absolutely zero difference between someone born in 1995 and someone born in 1996 or 1997, and there is very little difference between someone born in the mid-to-late-'90s and someone born in the early 2000s. As such, the distinction is as petty and meaningless as it is arbitrary. If you were born from 1996 - 2001, then you are most definitely not telling me that I'm not a zoomer because I was born in 1995.
Since this site's population is over 90% zoomers, I figured that I'd ask you all: what do you consider to be a zoomer?
