They're banning NSFW subreddits that actually are moderated and claiming they're unmoderated. They're just purging what they can to help with LLMs and make investors happy.

For context, it’s not just unmoderated subreddits and also not just NSFW subreddits. Multiple LGBTQ subreddits were banned as well despite having active moderators

They banned tons of porn/hentai subreddits but even about drugs, transgender, LGBTQ+. So, someone thought that it could be the influence of Project 2025, seeing how Facebook and Instagram removed LGBTQ+ stuff also.
But I think the major theory could be for welcoming more advertisers on the platform, and those advertisers probably doesn't want even LGBTQ+ content.
Still, probably even Reddit will downfall by adv
EDIT: the ban was reversed, admin said it was a bug

Elon's not happy about a good portion of subs banning Twitter links and/or pictures. He's paying the Admins to slowly destroy this place from the inside so Twitter and Facebook are the only major social media sites to use.
