When was the last time you used that word? "Dislike"... When was the last time you heard that word, actually? Nobody uses it.
Eve and tho we are taught from a young age: "The opposite of to like is to dislike", the word remains quite rare compared to the more extreme 'hate'. And to the skeptics out there, here is a graph (Google Ngram 2019) proving my point.

As you can see, 'hate' has soared in popularity since the '80s. Before then, its popularity was actually declining. And this I find to be an unfortunate thing. As they say: hate is a very strong word. To dislike is merely to desire to not be so. To hate is to be exploding with rage; to see as unacceptable. I believe the graph to be a reflection of society's loss of nuance. At present, when something undesirable becomes, the common reaction is "I hate X", as if X is so incredibly vile that expressing your emotional distress becomes more important than communicating forth your desire that X never came to be, in which case you would simply dislike X.
My advice to readers: stop hating. When something looks bad to you, be calm and state your dislike, state how you wish for something else to become. Then carry on. You need not be angered. You need not hate.

>In before people begin to dislike-react my post or reply with a statement regarding how they dislike one or more aspects about my post, believing that they are cunning.
>In before people begin to reply with "Shit no one cares about", despite me already having tagged the post as such.
>In before people begin to bring up how 'don't like' is still in common use, or has replaced 'dislike'. It has indeed surpassed 'dislike' in popularity, however it has only done so by a factor of two, and it is still not half as popular as 'hate'.

I think that's simply due to relevance. I dislike a lot of things, but I'd rather talk about things I hate. There are a lot of things that are disliked, but it's more interesting to talk about things people hate. We are now able to talk about anything or anyone in the world, it makes more sense that we would focus on love and hate, rather than like and dislike
