I think they are coal since people should be allowed to derail threads they do or don't like, and everyone has the ignore button and should use it more if you think someone is fucking with you. But for some threads like the megachud thread and in the journal/blog board it could be useful for the OP to request threadbans to keep things on topic.
What do you think?

Threadbanning is fine, much better than thread locking which is fake and gay, just do not abuse because that's when jannies become jannies.
 
what is thread banning? banning specific users from posting on specific threads?

No please don't do it, that's not good.
Derailing is KEYED, it's what keeps the site alive.
And spamming is already punished
 
Good idea, I support this. Albeit, it should be board specific.

Threadbans should only happen in serious threads, not shitposty or garbage fire threads

So you can't get threadbanned from a /games/ or /pol/ thread, but if you shit up a /jrn/ or /q/ thread then you risk a threadban
