GEG Someone told me that a reliable way to tell if a movie was written or directed by a woman is if the antagonists are often left speechless.

American Psycho doesn't do this and it was directed by a woman
It's not that "if it doesn't do this, it was directed by a man" but rather, "if it does do this, it's directed by a woman"

There is definitely a simpler way of saying that but I don't know how to.

I don't know many movies directed by women. Is that actually true?

this happens in soap operas and that's shit only women watch so probably

I looked up movies directed by women and it's just SNCA.

I like watching movies but I don't think I noticed this

People typically phrase this asymmetry using the terms like "necessary" and "sufficient". You could phrase the statement as you have conveyed it as "A Female director is necessary but not sufficient for a movie to have frequently speechless antagonists."

Point break is a classic female-directed film.
