The problem here is that people make too many spam threads. Here, by virtue of this variant someone is trying to force, you can see that 7 out of 15 threads are nonsense threads made by a single person. 3 are bloating sticky threads that further stagnate the first page of the catty, and the remaining 5 are under 5 reply nonsense threads made by an unknown amount of people. This is horrible
Your average person is not going to sort by reply count because that is useless in the long run. To have an attractive website to your users, you want to maintain an interesting first page of the catalogue, where there are some thought provoking discussions or chitchat for users to not leave the site for greener pastures.
You need to limit the amount of threads people can make in certain amounts of time and thus hamper the ability to for selfish little fucks taking thier soyduels and forcing competitions to the catty to ruin it for everyone else. Ban catty dueling, not because it is not capable of being funny, but because it is horrible for the health of an imageboard because it wipes the log, and especially the top of the log, which is the only part of the log people look at. Then, put a 15 min timer between thread posts from IPs, this discourages people from pumping out and dumping threads over and over again to clog the catty, and forces them to actually use the threads they make. Thus, the threadspam problem, outside of the use of bots, is solved, and the sharty is now capable of retaining people again like it used to.
I used to be able to waste an entire day on the sharty like I am able to here today, bouncing between different high effort high reply threads. Now the site can barely get my attention any time of day because all of the threads are nonsense posting and spam.
