do they not teach kids about the gulags or great leap forward? i remember they did in our history class but it was only briefly during the cold war, teacher talked about WWII and muh jews like 50x more than that stuff

History classes are lacking in my country.
World history is almost undiscussed.
If anything, they insist over and over, every year, that killing communists is le bad and that it should never happen again

I thought you meant they made you just write about current events in general (ex: you could look up news from anywhere as long as you are being reasonable and appropriate), but making you use just CNN is pretty degenerate. I'd just use malicious compliance and do my assignments on horrible crimes and make sure to use the mugshot each time.

Our gov teacher made us do something similar, I think it's great. It's better for us to know what's happening around us in the current era and discuss that rather than boring shit 100 years ago we'll forget the second we leave class.

Back in middle school there was this gay mandated thing you had to watch call Channel One News in lieu of an actual recess period. My seventh grade homeroom teacher forced us all to sit and watch it even though it was boring af but in the eighth grade I had a homeroom teacher that didn't even bother showing it and let us just go on our Chromebooks during that time.
