Is disciplining through physical violence always bad under any circumstances?

My elementary school teachers used to hit us and from my experience I think it's bad. It ruins the relationship between teachers and students. It never fixed anything with the students either and they'd do the same thing they got hit for later, usually out of spite and hatred. Fortunately nowadays that kind of teaching is considered outdated and teachers don't do it in most places.

No. I support lightly beating children who behave badly. But it's also bad to go overboard with this. There's the extreme of being too soft and spoiling a child (the most common case in the modern world) and there's the extreme of being so harsh that you essentially don't even love your own child anymore and cause trauma. Both should be avoided.
